Kumiko is one of our longest shelter residents and has been here with us for 159 days. Kumiko lives up to his Japanese name, which means “beautiful companion child” with his gorgeous red coat and gentle manners. We are scratching our heads a little about why friendly Kumiko keeps getting overlooked.
Kumiko is a Hounds Around Town favorite to take on walks and then stop for a pup cup on his way back to the shelter. One HAT volunteer says, “Kumiko is a gorgeous, lovely husky mix with the most adorable nose freckles. He’s playful and affectionate but seems overall fairly mellow and well mannered. Kumiko loves treats, takes them VERY gently and likes engaging with his human.” We have also observed at the shelter that Kumiko loves to play with other energetic dogs and would love to have a four-legged sibling in his forever home.
Kumiko has been several foster homes for short periods of time and has had to be returned each time through no fault of his own. One foster even commented on how patient Kumiko was with their one year old. One of Kumiko’s fosters described him as “very sweet and thoughtful and a gentle big boy he loves being near his people and loves playing and for a high energy dog is very calm. He is a softy for his chest and butt scratches.”
We think that Kumiko will live up to his name if someone would give him a chance. He would truly be the best companion. Please consider becoming his forever home and give sweet Kumiko all the love he deserves.
